Calypso Music


Calypso originated on the island of Trinidad and Tobago and has become popular amongst all the other Caribbean islands, even the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands.

We sometimes refer to Calypso as Kaiso and Soca, which are different styles of Calypso. Sometimes Calypso is accompanied by pan music or steel drums.

Like good wine, once you’ve gotten a taste of calypso music, you can then appreciate the lyrical play on words, the social commentaries about current events,

Even though I’m not living in Trinidad currently? Like the local Trinis I look forward to the battles of the Calypsonians, and it’s also a great way for those of us living abroad to stay ahead of de bacchanal as we call it – or current events.
