Positive Living takes conscious effort

I am big on positive thinking , even in the midst of not so positive situations. I don’t just say positive things, I exemplify it in my day to day. That’s just my philosophical approach to living.

Half full

I much rather see a cup as half full than half empty. It is deliberate and extremely beneficial to me holistically.

Thank you

Thank you to my 200 Followers. I truly appreciate each and every one of you and wanted you to know I don’t take your likes and follows for granted. I do my best to follow up, respond, comment on each person. If I do not – it’s still a work in progress and I am striving on doing much better.

Every like is an experience because it comes from a person with a real life, a real personality, with interesting blogs and contributions, and not a made up profile. I value you and deem you worthy. Thank you once again.

All the best to you and I pray 2019 is much better than any other year previously. May God’s favor be ever upon you hereafter.

Happy Old Year!

Happy New Year!

Good vibes and continue writing from your heart.

As Africans it has been difficult finding and especially seeing consistent, positive images of Africans in any form of media.
Black Madonna & Child Pinterest

If images are shown they are usually watered down to have a feature somewhat representative but never an authentic African. Usually very Eurocentric rather than Afrocentric.

Adapting to the Eurocentric

Secondly, the positive images of African women and men are downplayed, instead more negative images of gangsters, prostitutes, drug dealers and loud obnoxious people and let’s not forget the buffoons, who are typically cast via media, even within our own circles they have become acceptable as a norm unfortunately.

Beautiful African woman in turban

Christi African Man

The reasons it has become a norm is simple. It was made acceptable and attractive in all the entertainment venues as easy way to to make quick money, and lots of it. Comedy, TV Sitcoms , and even theatre has now become acceptable broadly by everyone.

Lorenzo Knight African Woman

The stereotypes are so powerful the regular man on the street is convinced everyone african represents one or the other of the negative caricature I mentioned earlier.

Blackish

Our communities are represented as violent and not good places to raise children or families. Homes are undervalued and businesses come only to take the money we spend, but they do not reinvest due to real estate value and “ghetto” looking areas.

Black Wall Street

Our beauty standards are the same as any other community but no one wants us to magnify and raise ourselves up. When we try, we are systematically dragged back into place. This is evident every day by the shameful acts of violence against us daily by some law enforcement and even regular people on the street who would usually wear hoods and masks to do their dirty deeds, but have now become more brazen in their acts by calling the police on African persons perceived to be in an environ not “normal” for African persons like a park, the beach playing volleyball, a college campus, OR imagine this…in front of a building waiting for an Uber.

Beaching while black

What does all of this has to do with beauty? Well think about it. Most non Africans display themselves or depict themselves in media as angelic, beautiful, serene, soft spoken, articulate , business like etc. and they are oftentimes treated as how they are depicted, whether or not it’s who they actually are. This is very deceptive marketing.

Blacks and whites see racism very differently CNN.com

But no matter how an African person is cast , he nor she cannot escape the stereotypes. Not on the job, not in media, and certainly not in real life.

Raquel Gates

So where do we go from here? We collectively have to refuse those roles which continue to stereotype us. Demand more Africans in magazines and in modeling by spending our dollars responsibly. I say we because it has to begin with us. We can’t expect anyone to do it for us. Look at us 400-500 years later. Be honest…what has changed? Where is our infrastructure? Where are our financial institution, our schools and our organizations?

African American history

Everyone else has theirs. We do not. Everyone else seems to function well within their own sets of rules and norms but as soon as we try to do the same we get reverse racism thrown as a wrench at us.

Affirmative Action

We get the Bible thrown at us, and we get embroiled in political shenanigans which has nothing to do with us because nothing politicians do benefits Afro communities.

Is religion used as an opium to the people or as useful means of domination for politicians? - Agnostic.com

We can only change our outlook, including our images and beauty standard by looking within ourselves.

We have to love ourselves and each other.

Positive Change

You are the key

If you desire something, only you and effect the process of achieving that something.

We tend to believe we are stuck in a place or with someone, sometimes repeated behaviors, sadly because that is what we trick ourselves into believing. We can’t see the future. We exist only in the here and now dilemma.

But, it takes one tiny step towards what may appear to be an impossibility for you to see a light, it may just be a glimmer, but if will get brighter and brighter the more you dyrp towards it.

Set daily goals to achieve so that you don’t step backwards. Even if you fall back momentarily that should be a win.

Whenever we ”fail” or fall there isusually a lesson learned that’s the win to propel you forward. Giving up is not an option.

The you in 6 months, one year, 5 years will be completely transformed.

Positive change oftentimes involves people, places and things which you have no power to change. But, you do have power over yourself.

Change yourself and the positive changes will naturally occur. Don’t be afraid to change your outlook to include people, places and things. Surprisingly they will come along once you stand your ground and implant your mission.

Either they go along or go away. Either way you keep forging forward to keep positive. Mind you, this is not about hurting others. It’s all about making a better you. Sometimes others become better too but the focus has to be you first.

Only You

Only You

N.B

When I first wrote this I wasn’t sure of the direction I wanted to go with this piece. I was just writing, releasing energy. I shared it with one other person then stored it. Monday, my colleagues mom passed, albeit she was aged, but I felt his loss. I think everyone should feel the loss of a person regardless. Death should make us more mindful, not less. We should take some time to mourn, feel the loss and also to honor the person we’ve lost in death. They may not be able to appreciate it but it makes a difference in your heart and in the people around you. Only you can start making a difference towards positive change in this world. Be mindful.

Everyone needs you

No one wants you

Only you

Great beginnings

Everyone wants you

Nobody needs you

Only you

Only you

Know what you want

Can define what you need

Only you

Only you can need and want you

Only you can Make it a great day🤗

Mature Audience

Perception

We get involved in relationships oftentimes not for the right reasons:

1. Feeling empathy for the other person

2. Feeling sympathy for the other person

3. Anger from a previous relationship or rebound

4. Loneliness

5. Depression

6. Money issues

7. Abuse

It is important to go into relationships with your eyes wide open. The previous reasons only makes you trapped, susceptible, vulnerable, and unable to truly share your true self with another sensible person. It also allows for repeating of the same relationship mistakes.

It’s always best to have a good sit down and hash things out before jumping in. Clear the clutter or baggage, and talk as mature adults about expectations.

It may not feel romantic or feel goody, but it pays off long term. You are both happier and the pressure of being in a negatively charged relationship is now eliminated.

Women and men should be able to have friendships without sex. The expectations of sex should be removed and replaced with adult conversations, goals and expectations. The pressures and discomforts of sexual energy must be replaced with friendships.

This is the only way for relationships, especially in this day and age of bed buddies, to grow into meaningful relationships and not just ships passing each other casually in the night at bars, hotels, motels, clubs, etc.

We need to bring back meaning into relationships by being more perceptive and mindful.

I didn’t use morality because I feel it should be a natural behavior or thought. But I’ve realized over the years morality is relative to many. It isn’t, its constant. There’s good and there’s bad, no in betweens. Food for thought.

Everything in life is ordered. They are seasonal, changing constantly and redesigning themselves for survival.

You and I are the same way. There’s no removing ourselves from the dynamic. We have to go with the flow, listen to our body rhythms and actually understand what it wants us to do and follow through and keep ourselves in order.

Eat balanced, consume things which will enrich your cells not hurt them. Hard lesson for us to learn until we actually have one foot in the grave. But if we keep a healthy balance and keep our bodies in motion we are going to enjoy quality of life. It’s not always perfect but it will improve significantly.

We are what we eat …think about that.

Are you happy with what you’ve attained?

Where else do you see yourself?

What more would you like to do?

All this planning an achieving

How does it help your fellow man?

Can you see?

It’s ok…most of us do not

Until much later

When we open our eye of understanding and truly feel

Empathy

No one, and I mean no one has to walk a mile in YOUR shoe

So why let anyone impact how that shoe fits?

Mom, dad, Aunty, uncle are all well intentioned. And it is wise to listen, absorb, observe what they are actually saying and where their experiences have brought them. But, in the grand scheme of things their best intentions must align itself with your hopes, dreams and reality.

Judge not what you haven’t experienced personally

I pray, you do what makes a difference to you in your lifetime and you see how it has effected change in the natural and spiritual world around you. Take nought for granted because everything in life has a reason.

Only you can effect change

Have you lived your best day today ? – 2

Hard Work

Everything we want, need and desire is attainable, but guess what ? Hard work, sleepless nights, fatigue and oftentimes self sacrifice is at the core, along with consistency, which eventually leads to the productive outcome you were seeking.
Executives speak

The Process

Understanding you cannot skip the part where hard work is a must ,and we cannot miss that process, not one step. A fortunate few get to skip the process but don’t be fooled, there are mountains to climb and obstacles to overcome when that happens.

Above the Fray
Questions

One must be always willing to follow the steps even when opportunities present themselves for skipping certain steps. You have to consider these interrogatives : what am I missing, and what are the lessons I’m missing when I skip a step?

http://www.easyfreeclipart.com/ask-clipart.html
Goals

There is hard work where you just work like a mule but at the end of the day nothing got achieved. Then there is hard work where you outlined goals met certain criteria you established for yourself and everything worked out well. Just as you planned. This type of work is at the core of success in all things; Relationships, marriages, friendships require work and attention to small details. You take nothing for granted and you always give what you wish to receive, and more perhaps. The reward is generally directly forthcoming, and pleasantly enough sometimes indirectly forthcoming from sources you probably never imagined. Someone may be following your work on social media and admires your drive, and wishes to contribute.  I have certainly done it even recently with a young, talented person recently. A relative perhaps has seen all the hard work you dedicated to your project and decides to reward you with a gift of money, time, maybe a free office space for 6-11 months. I am just saying, anything is possible.

Smart Goals
Support

Sometimes just thoughts and support from friends and family is enough to spark that extra push to do more or perhaps to keep those creative juices flowing. Just hang in there and make it a great day by living each day as your best day.
